Nature of Firm’s Responsibilities on the Project:

Horizon Engineering worked closely with the Natural Lands Trust, a regional land preservation organization, to develop a plan for Paunacussing Preserve, a nature preserve on 100 acres of pristine and scenic land at the headwaters of the Paunacussing Creek watershed in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  Woodlands, meadows, wetlands, a creek and scenic pond contribute to the bucolic and ecologically diverse setting.  The preserve center, carefully sited to provide commanding views of the wetlands, shall serve as an administrative, educational, and meeting facility.  A maintenance building positioned adjacent the preserve center shall house equipment to maintain the property, and a home has been included for the resident caretaker.  The remainder of the site remains as a natural habitat and educational environment.

Horizon Engineering began the project with a comprehensive analysis of site conditions and municipal ordinance criteria in order to prepare a layout that would meet the municipality’s development requirements and the client’s program requirements, while at the same time remaining sensitive to the site’s natural features.  Our services for civil and site design for this project included: land surveying, land planning, site layout, grading, stormwater management, Best Management Practices including constructed wetland, erosion and sediment control, landscape, lighting and careful planning for and coordination of on-site sanitary sewer disposal and water-supply facilities.  Horizon Engineering assisted the client in obtaining all required land development approvals and permits to enable them to enact their plan.
